WHAT IS MUAY THAI?
Muay Thai is a martial art form that originated in south east Asia, specifically Thailand. Known as the art of 8 limbs, Muay Thai is an extremely effective fighting style that incorporates clinches, elbows, and knees.
IS IT LIKE KICKBOXING?
Muay Thai and Kickboxing are similar. A couple of key differences are:
- Muay Thais reliance on clinches
- Muay Thai heavily emphasizes use of knees and elbows
So kickboxing and Muay Thai are both striking stand up forms of martial arts with different accents.
I’M LOOKING FOR A FUN CARDIO KICKBOXING STYLE WORKOUT, IS MUAY THAI FOR ME?
Like many group fitness classes (boxing, kickboxing, and more), the way Muay Thai is taught is far more relevant to whether or not it’s a fun cardio workout class with some good technical instruction, or it is serious martial arts training that would only interest fighters. Our instruction classes at Tapout Norcross are all geared towards a fitness crowd. Our recipe for success in the group fitness calendar has been taking “traditionally serious” training formats like boxing, kickboxing, MMA, and Muay Thai, and blending them with a totally non-technical pure cardio workout to create a class that will teach you real martial arts/boxing ability and moves, but will be done in a non-intimidating and fun way with a great workout and body transformation first mentality. We’ll give you the best of both worlds.
