Grappling and submissions are on the ground martial arts styles. There are many different specific schools that teach different kinds of submissions and grappling techniques. Our MMA sub and grappling class combines technical movements from multiple disciplines and provides baseline instruction on how to operate from the ground in various positions, basic take-down and take down defense, and MMA style cardio and endurance training.
IS THIS THE SAME AS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU?
No. We have a full BJJ program here at Tapout Norcross, but this is a Mixed Martial Arts style of ground training that incorporates multiple styles.
IS THIS CLASS PART OF THE BJJ PROGRAM OR ANOTHER SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP, OR CAN I GO TO IT WITH MY LIMITED COACHED OR ALL INCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP?
This class is part of our normal calendar and is open to all coached fitness members.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Just an approved mouth guard.
IS THIS CLASS ALL SLOW TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION OR WILL I WORKOUT TOO?
You’ll definitely get a good workout. This class is lots of fun, and since it incorporates an MMA style endurance portion, it’s also a great workout in the more traditional sense.
WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS CLASS FOR?
Like the live sparring classes or the self-defense/street fighting 101 class, I wouldn’t recommend this class to everyone. If you have no interest in learning ground martial arts and only like to strike (kick and punch bags or pads) then this class is not for you. If you don’t like the idea of touching and doing a bit of rolling around with sweaty bodies on the floor learning the submissions and body positioning then this class is not for you. If you want super intense nonstop calorie burn for 60 minutes straight then this class is probably not for you. But if you have ever had interest in wrestling or Jiu-Jitsu but aren’t sure if it’s something you want to commit all the way to this class would be great for you. If you want to get a Mixed Martial Arts style work out and try something different this class is something you should try. If you have been taking the boxing/kickboxing/muay thai classes at Tapout specifically to learn fighting skills and want to expand your abilities by learning some ground moves this class is definitely for you.
