Today I’d like to broadly address cardio based group fitness or individual cardio fitness routines vs a routine that mixes classes/cardio training and weight or resistance machine workouts. Group fitness (whether it’s kickboxing or Zumba or anything in between) is fun, provides a group energy that you can feed off of, some accountability especially if you have a regular “crew” that goes to the class, and gives you a workout that is led by someone who has expertise in fitness. Cardio group workouts definitely are effective for burning calories and increasing metabolism, which is one piece of the physique pie (depending on your body type and goals it may be more or less important). However, it’s not the whole pie. Real body transformation has to include weight or resistance machine training (in fact, in most cases, though not all, resistance needs to be the primary mechanism, with cardio and classes as a supplement) in order to reshape your muscles. A common breakdown that we recommend here at Tapout for our members is as follows:
MAJOR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS – 5 workouts per week, 3 fitness classes (or individual cardio training days) and 1 upper body and 1 lower body resistance workouts with free weights or machines.
MAJOR LEAN MUSCLE MASS GAIN GOAL – 5 workouts per week, 1 fitness class (or individual cardio training sessions), 4 muscle group split resistance workouts with free weights or machines (free weights is preferred).
GENERAL HEALTH AND WELL BEING GOAL – 3 workouts per week, 2 fitness classes (or individual cardio training days), 1 full body resistance workout with free weights or machines (machines is preferred).
One of the primary benefits being a member at Tapout offers is the ability to seamlessly integrate both into your workout regimen. Most gyms that have the style and quality of group exercise that we offer do not have fully equipped 24 hour fitness centers built in. Having that flexibility makes Tapout an amazing choice!
